  • Azelaic acid – an antibacterial agent that can kill acne-causing bacteria. Azelaic acid is recommended for use only when prescribed by a physician because it causes extreme irritation. Also, azelaic acid is a hair growth stimulant, forcing females to choose between acne and facial hair.
  • Benzoyl peroxide – is the best acne treatment ingredient there is. Benzoyl peroxide reduces acne and is federally approved in concentrations up to 10%. Concentration is important in effectiveness. 5% has been shown to be ideal and concentrations less than 5% are ineffective. Exposed contains only 3.5%.
  • Green tea extract – is not an active ingredient in fighting acne but that does not stop Exposed from listing it as such. Green tea extract is a beneficial ingredient in acne treatments but it should by no means receive top billing.
  • Benzalkonium chloride – a strong biocide that causes irritation.
  • Gotu kola extract – a mild antibiotic.

Does Exposed Acne Treatment Work?

Our reviewers found Exposed to be ineffective in fighting acne. We were not surprised since the formula contained only a 3.5% benzoyl peroxide solution which is not strong enough to be effective. We were also concerned about the addition of azelaic acid as our experience has shown it to cause irritation.
